As a beauty editor, I’m always up to date with the looks worn by celebrities on red carpets, award shows, premieres… I love zooming in on the images so I don’t miss a single detail and discover which trends are in fashion. And I’m sure which one has been the most popular this season: porcelain skin, very luminous and without a single imperfection. Choosing a good foundation is key to achieving an impeccable result, but above all, it’s thanks to… the magic of concealer!
You’ve been asking me a lot about how to use it, how much is necessary and, above all, how to avoid it cracking , so I spoke to makeup artist Cristina Lobato to get some tips. First of all? “It’s very important to use a moisturizing cream that helps soften the skin and improve the adhesion of the concealer.”
In this regard, her motto is “less is more.” It is best to apply it in ” thin layers and in small amounts ” and blend well before adding more if necessary. To blend the product, you can use a sponge or a small, dense brush. “Pat lightly and make sure not to drag the product to avoid it accumulating in expression lines.”
Just as important is choosing the perfect shade for you: “Go for a shade lighter than your own skin to add luminosity and hide imperfections. If you have very light dark circles, apply a natural beige shade, but if your dark circles are dark, go for a slightly orangey salmon shade.”
I asked her what I’m most interested in, which is how to correct redness and if I have any spots . “Choose a medium coverage concealer in a shade that matches your skin tone, not too light or too dark.”
Should you apply concealer before or after foundation? “I recommend applying concealer first, then foundation. This will precisely cover the areas that need more correction, such as dark circles, blemishes and redness. By correcting imperfections first, you will need less foundation, resulting in a more natural, less heavy finish,” says the makeup artist.
